New Mexico Search & Seizure

The Fourth Amendment is the floor. Article 2, Section 10 is the rule.

Who it's for: patrol officers, detectives, deputies, and anyone who writes a warrant or makes a warrantless entry in New Mexico.

What goes wrong without it: an officer applies the federal rule he learned in the academy, New Mexico courts apply a stricter one, and the evidence is gone. The defendant walks. The officer gets a reputation with the DA's office he does not want.

What you learn:

What you walk away with: you stop guessing at the street and start knowing which exception you are standing on, and why it will hold up.

Format: full day. On site or virtual. NMDPS approved.

Use of Force Law

The decision takes seconds. The lawsuit takes years.

Who it's for: every sworn officer, and every supervisor who signs off on a use of force report.

What goes wrong without it: an officer knows Graham v. Connor by name and cannot explain what it means at 2 a.m. The force was probably reasonable. The report says otherwise. Now it's a civil rights lawsuit, an IA case, or worse, a criminal referral.

What you learn:

What you walk away with: you know where the line is, you know how to articulate why you were on the right side of it, and your reports say so.

Format: full day classroom, with a reality based training option. On site or virtual for the classroom portion.
